Teaching Maths at Home

“I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. I do and I understand.” Well that’s what Confucius wrote and who am I to disagree. I have started with this quote and I will come back to it later when I get on to talking about teaching maths at home. But first – who is this article for? In writing this I am thinking about those who home school for one reason or another and also for those who want to support a child in their learning. It is also for other subjects too such as physics and chemistry where there is a large problem solving element.

Using a Course Specification

What do I need to know in order to pass an examination? What do I need to do in order to pass an examination? Often students will resort to trying to find the extent of a course’s requirements by trying to digest the contents of a book or course materials. In fact the simplest answer to how to identify what you need to know and be able to do, is to get a hold of the exam specification document issued by the awarding body such as EDEXCEL or AQA. These are freely available to download in PDF format from their respective websites.
